Appointments Abroad Request Form Process
The process for requesting an appointment abroad has been streamlined and simplified with the implementation of a new electronic form.
The Appointment Abroad form is only to be completed for individuals who will work from outside the U.S. Other international travel related remote work should be registered with the Global Travel Registry and Concur and follow the guidance at MSU’s Office of Export Control and Trade Sanctions website guidance on international travel. Tools of Trade License Exemption Guidance
License Exception TMP (15 CFR §740.9) under the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) authorizes U.S. Persons to export, reexport, and/or transfer (in-country) certain University-owned equipment, items, and software (“tools of trade”) for temporary use abroad. Tools of trade are those items (e.g., instruments, equipment, software, technology, etc.) needed for use with the individual’s occupation/employment.
Joint Certification Number (DD Form 2345)
MSU holds an approved Military Technical Data Agreement DD Form 2345. MSU’s Office of Export Control and Trade Sanctions (ECTS) can provide you with the JCP certification number listed on the DD2345 if needed.
Visual Compliance
Michigan State University has a cross-campus site license to Visual Compliance software, which provides searchable access to the Commerce Control List, the Munitions list, lists of debarred parties and entities and other resources. You must register with your @msu.edu email address to use the site license.
